Member1223729337024Dec 14 19 - 07:21My favorite holiday memory was 2 years ago. My boys and I lived at the womens resource center and I didn't think the boys would be happy that Christmas. I didn't have much money so they just got a couple of gifts from the dollar tree and I was worried. But when we woke up the women who volunteer there had went out and bought all the children at the shelter there a few gifts and made all of us a wonderful Christmas dinner. It wasn't even about the gifts really it was the feeling of love in the air. For that day all the women and children and staff at the shelter was a family. We laughed together and it was honestly the most magical Christmas I have ever experienced. Honestly if I won I would use some of the money for the shelter families that are there now. Nothing will ever top the feeling I had that Christmas and my boys still talk about it all the time.

OnlyTheBestDec 13 19 - 22:29Favorite holiday memory: driving around the city to look at lights and decorations.
jmart27Dec 13 19 - 21:58My favorite Christmas memory was when I was 7. I wanted to see who was putting the presents under the tree on Christmas Eve if it was Santa or somebody else in the house. I stayed up as late as I could until I finally fell asleep. I still remember it until now because I was a little girl on a mission but I messed up. :) Thank you for the chance!
Member1223697201050Dec 13 19 - 21:43Hi! Happy Holidays, everyone! Hope all is well!!! :) My most memorable Christmas was... I have always obsessed over horses! I love riding them! I wanted one of my own! So, one Christmas morning, several years ago, I looked out my window, and my amazing parents got me my own horse! Her name was Lady! I was so excited and will never forget that feeling of excitement!
Member815027376811Dec 13 19 - 21:13My most memorable Christmas is when we would see who could wrap the present with packaging tape or duct tape and not be able to get into it. We could never use a scissors or a knife because that was considered cheating. We had hours of laughter especially when we would wrap something so small in a big box and have other boxes inside which were all individually wrapped with duct tape.

Member915591159351Dec 13 19 - 20:32My most memorable Christmas was when I returned from work after picking up my kids and when I opened the door I was shocked to see that Santa had came early. Someone had came in my home and put up a tree, decorated it, put presents under it, decorated the house, put food in the cupboards, and provided us with Christmas dinner. I am a single mother and I was struggling really bad. I couldn't believe that something like this could happen for us. All I could do was cry.
Member1223723706010Dec 13 19 - 20:28I don’T have a favorite. Every year is great to watch my kids open their presents, their lil faces are so happy even if they don’T always get what they want. 😁

Member128109660322Dec 13 19 - 20:07My first Christmas with my wife. She grew up without having Christmas in her home, so we bought her first tree, made ornaments to decorate it, and filled it with gifts for her kids.

Member1223720642441Dec 13 19 - 17:38My most amazing holiday memory is of my grandfather on Christmas Eve in 2004, just one month before he passed away. He has 11 children and I witnessed him tell us all how proud and blessed he was to be our father and grandfather. With tears in his eyes, I could see that the holiday spirit gave him the peace he needed to let him know he provided us a life worth living for his family thay he loved so dearly. It makes me smile every Christmas just to remember him.
Member1212100569002Dec 13 19 - 17:30My best holiday memory is when my cousin would make Christmas breakfast and have the family over, before our big dinner in the afternoon. Member821481405254Dec 13 19 - 16:46Last year I celebrated Christmas and New Year with my parents after 6years. They flew over, from a different continent, for the birth of my daughter, who was born in January first week, and stayed with us to help with my 2year old. It was the best holiday I have had in years.
Member1223721483630Dec 13 19 - 16:44My favorite holiday memories are being young. I would go to my family’S Christmas Eve party come home and rush to the kitchen to get the cookies, carrots and milk ready for Santa and the reindeer. After that my grandma would take us to the front door and tell us to listen for the sleigh bells. The second I heard them I would run to my room and hop in my bed. To this day I secretly still do it just as a reminder of my childhood. It keeps the joy alive.

silverjetDec 13 19 - 11:10Putting out cookies for Santa when I was little and waking up to see that he had eaten them! It was so magical because it reaffirmed my belief that he was real. Now I remember it fondly because it meant my dad ate them when I went to sleep to make sure I kept that belief.

Member1223631391842Dec 13 19 - 09:09My favorite holiday memory was Christmas Eve in 2004. We were at my grandmothers house for Christmas Eve dinner. Now we live in South Texas so winter is not really cold so you can imagine how ridiculous it sounded to hear my oldest sister say the one thunder we heard "sounded like the thunder you hear when it snows." We brushed it off until someone went outside and ran back in saying it was snowing!!! We ran outside and my entire family was outside playing in it! My grandmother asked me to make her the biggest snowball I could so she could take a picture with it. I still have the picture. We lost her a few months later. This is why it is my favorite memory. The smile on her face as she watched us play is priceless. Our only White Christmas.

Kg12533Dec 13 19 - 04:01My favorite holiday memory was last year 2018 when I was blessed to spend the day with my oldest daughter and my grandson . And to watch the look on my four-year-old grandson at the time he was 3 years old when he got out of bed he saw all these big presents wrapped up for him he thought Santa came but really it was his mama that got those presents for him and my daughter was so happy to see her son happy. I'll never forget both of their faces expressions and all the love that was given and receive that day it was priceless. This yr Christmas wont be the same or feal the same for me or my grandson recently my daughter passed away August of 2019 next to my grandson in her sleep.
b3haganDec 13 19 - 03:20My favorite Holiday memory is my earliest memory of Christmas. I think around the year 1984. I was 3 years old. I really loved that my entire immediate family (mom, dad, and 6 siblingsn; our ages ranges at that time was 2-23) was together. We were all happy, all in a good state in life, and all getting along with each other.

Pam PamDec 12 19 - 18:39I was about 12 years old Mom said there would be Christmas that year cause we had no money, we didn't even have a tree yet come Christmas morning I woke up a big surprise of a small lopsided naked Christmas tree and one gift under it marked with my name. Still one of my favorite childhood memories.
Jesbur89Dec 12 19 - 16:51Waiting for the kids to get up and see what Santa brought them...Well my daughter sneaks down the stairs and we never heard her scream or run back up all excited. Sooo.. As we opened the door to meet her downstairs we caught her in the middle of tiptoeing back up stairs with the rest of Santa's cookies. Busted!

combat_chickaDec 12 19 - 11:52Our 2nd born wasn't due for two more weeks. My husband was home for the holidays and my little 2 year old son kept saying "today's the day!" Little did I know I would be going into labor and "today's the day" meant i'd give birth to a beautiful little girl on the early morning of December 25th. Best present ever! We celebrated by going out for Chinese for dinner 💖

Member1223680926354Dec 12 19 - 06:26I am one of 11 children. Number 9 to be exact, and Christmas in our house was mostly hand me downs. I remember the one Christmas in 1969 we had a silver tree with the bubble lights and white tinsel on it and there were presents under the tree. I can't remember what I had gotten most years for Christmas, but I remember that day! My Mom and Dad bought all us kids 1 present each and mine was a Barbie doll with an extra set of clothes. I was the happiest kid in the world that year.

Member1116688486418Dec 12 19 - 05:28I have not had many good Holiday memories. I was an orphan. Day 4 I got 4 toys etc...). Every year between the ages of 6-13

TinaPerkyDec 11 19 - 16:54My favorite holiday moment occurred when I was 6 years old. At that time I still believed in Santa Claus.
I woke up early on Christmas day and made my way to the living room. I stood there staring in complete amazement. There were so many Christmas presents under the tree! In that moment, I literally felt surrounded by the magic of Christmas. After a few moments, I made my way to the plate of cookies and glass of milk that were left out for Santa. The cookies had been eaten and the milk was gone. This forever cemented in my mind the magical illusion and the best Christmas holiday that I ever had as a child.

darleneavilaDec 11 19 - 10:52My favorite holiday memory is having all of my family together when I was a child on Christmas Day in the year 2000. We had approximately 30 family members and friends at our house. I was a child and I loved to sing and perform in front of everyone. I loved to sing Christina Aguilera Geenie in a Bottle. My mother still has the videos of me performing. I was a chunky, red cheek, freckle faced little girl with a dream to become a singer one day.

christyrp90Dec 11 19 - 10:06My favorite holiday memory is spending time with my grandma on Christmas Day each year. This Christmas will be our first Christmas without her as a family, as she passed away in October. I will miss her hand rolled gnocchi, her silly songs she would sing, and seeing everyone in the family gathered in her living room sitting on the floor together because there weren't enough seats. When you think about the best memories you have of the holidays, it seems they will always include people you love and the times you spent with them- not the gifts you received.
klahaneridgeDec 11 19 - 10:05My favorite holiday memory would probably be Christmas mornings from childhood. We would have the woodstove going with dogs & Cats sleeping by the warm fire, and we would open our presents while eating Christmas coffeecake.

atgiffordDec 11 19 - 07:35I have two favorite memories/Traditions from when I was a child. One is putting up the Christmas tree. It was an artificial tree and you had to place each branch in a hole on the "trunk" and it was all color-coded. My dad would take each branch from the box and spread out all the needles. Then us kids would take turns putting them in the correct spots. The other tradition was going to my grandparents' church on Christmas Eve. At the end, everyone would get a candle and circle around the sanctuary where we would sing Silent Night by candle light.
Donna43wDec 11 19 - 07:11When I was 9 I wanted a bike. I knew my mom couldn't afford one so I didn't tell her. When I got up on Xmas morning I had not 1 but 2 bikes there. They were used and 1 had flat tire's but I didn't care. She got one n my uncle got me one. So I gave one to my brother. I kept the one with flat tires lol
Member815075401716Dec 11 19 - 07:07My favorite memory is (may seem weird) is the smell of Christmas morning when I was a child. The mix of the tree, the wrapping, fire. I can remember the smell of the chopsticks, the notebooks that had scent. It was the only time my sister and I would camp out in each others rooms, we could get up together.

One Christmas we planned to trap Santa! Lol. We set up a string to pull. My Dad told us he wouldn't come if we stayed up,so the plan was foiled!

islandkimmiDec 11 19 - 03:36One of my best Christmas memories was the year Santa brought us a puppy. Christmas morning, we found a dog toy and little white baby powder paw prints leading to our pantry. We followed the tracks and there he was!! What a great day that was!
craigcraigDec 11 19 - 01:50My best Christmas memory comes two years ago. My grandmother had been in hospice, and she was very ill. I was able to fly home to spend time with her and my family. We had one last season with her before she passed over Christmas, her funeral was December 26th. We all knew the end was near, and we felt privileged to have that last bit of time with her and each other. She was in good spirits, telling jokes and stories. She had the best memory of anyone i've ever known! She could recall exact dates and details from over 50yrs ago! She made us smile and laugh, and we were able to plant one last holiday in our memories together. She was the glue that held our family together in many ways. I miss her a lot, but am so thankful we knew ahead of time that she was passing so we could all drop everything and be together.
Alexxthelion_Dec 11 19 - 01:19My favorite memory of Christmas would be as a kid with my parents, aunts/Uncles, sister, and my cousins. Growing up all my cousins as well as myself, we were all around the same age. Every single year all the children would beg to open presents, but our parents would have rules. The rules were of course to be nice, wait until after midnight to open our presents. As kids, we would fall asleep before then. When 1 am came around our parents would wake us up, Santa came left snow on the porch, ate our cookies and drank our milk. Best part was there would always be a lot more presents under the tree then before. I would be filled with excitement! Looking to my sister and my cousins and seeing their excitement was equally exciting. Having my family all together, happy is my favorite holiday memory.
Member1223670938429Dec 10 19 - 23:06Growing up my family was never immediately close to my grandparents or cousins, due to my fathers job. My favorite memory would be when the family packed up every few years with presents in tow, and fly cross country (which looking back at was costly and my parents would put themselves in debt to make their child be closer to their family) to go to my grandparents house. When we would travel it would be all exciting to go from the 4 of us, to next thing you know we land and it felt like the family blew up to a few 100 people. At first it would be overwhelming but by the time it was over I didn't want to leave. It might sound dorky, but it was never about the presents although as a kid I couldn't complain about what I received. It was being around loved ones I didn't get to see much. Today as an adult I am still unfortanetly not living close to family and wish I could around to travel to see family members. If I won, I would use the money to help me go visits my grandmother who is the last surviving grandparent I have and some cousins as well.
stubborncharmDec 10 19 - 20:59When I was 15 there was a ring that I really wanted. It wasnt anything particular about this ring that made it stand out, but I remember going to the store daily to look at this ring. Finally I was able to save enough money to buy the ring and I was beyond excited. I showed my parents more than once this ring that won my heart. On the day I went to buy the ring I walked proudly to the counter and I searched and searched for what I felt was my ring. It was gone. I was nearly in tears. I found my parents and I explained to them someone must have purchased my ring. I was brokenhearted. Christmas Day came and went without much fanfare. That evening just before calling it a night my dad was rummaging around the tree and he pulled put a small box and handed it to me. He said one gift must have been forgotten. I opened that little box and there it was...My ring. I cried and cried. I wanted that ring so much and I had given up on the idea that it would ever belong to me. Some 30+ Years later and I still have that ring. She has lost her shine and she is a bit small but I still love that ring. I will never forget what my parents did for me that Christmas

joan1030Dec 10 19 - 19:19My favorite Christmas memory is of Christmas Eve when we would do The Feast Of The Seven Fishes. We would cook at least seven different fishes, pasta, cookies, pastries, cannolis, pies, etc. We had enough food to feed an army and we needed it. My husband was the oldest of eleven, I am the oldest of four and most on both sides were married with children. Both sets of parents were also there. It was pure insanity(about 50 with children of all ages) but what I wouldn't give to do that night one more time. It was one of our happiest memories.

I have a lot of special memories from the holidays. I always like that during the holidays the entire family was able to get together. I get to see all of my aunts, uncles, cousins and even my grandmother who live out in Kansas. My little brothers also come down for the holidays and even though they can get really annoying they are cute and really hilarious to watch. I always love to see the whole family in one place and laughing and joking with each other. Another great thing with my family during the holidays is that all of my aunts are really good at cooking so we always have really good food. During the holidays it is always nice to see everyone you love being together and having a good time even though outside it is freezing cold and everything is covered in 5 feet of snow and ice. I remember one year around Christmas we were outside sledding at my dad’S and our dog kept chasing us as we were sledding down the hill. Eventually he figured he would try to bite at the sled and because it was a blow up one we knew if he kept trying he would pop it. Eventually even after trying to push him away I was sledding down the hill and he bit into it and it popped and I was flung face first into the snow and it was really cold. Even though I had a headache I thought it was pretty funny.

Memorable because I got to share the Christmas with hospital full of patients that didnt have their families there. So it was like I had the whole world to celebrate. Blessing in disguise.

I was terrified that the holiday was coming up because I knew I couldn’T afford to give him exactly what he wanted. We spent Christmas Eve wrapping gifts together, baking cookies and then watched The Christmas Story laughing as if it was our first time ever watching it. Christmas Day he told me I was the best Mommy ever and he was the happiest kid on the planet. I still cry thinking about him staying that.

BJohnson1478Dec 07 19 - 01:02We are a large family of 13 and every one came home on Christmas Eve. And when adult siblings went home . There were just us that were living at home still. My dad decided that since we had a mess from that evening. We would just open our gifts that night. In the middle of the night my brother had to be admitted into hospital for appendix ..
Member1223598539125Dec 07 19 - 00:15When the eight of us helped Mom string popcorn for the tree. Couldn’T afford decorations so we all made homemade ornaments. My brother cut up a sock, put tissue paper in it and drew a funny face on it. I made a small pink bow ornament. We had a lot of laughs putting our own twist on the tree. Dad went and chopped the tree. We didn’T have much, but we were happy. I carry that memory with me.....

My Aunt was driving her daughter and me to my house and as we got closer to the house , I saw lights in the sky and I told my cousin who is much younger than me that it was santa claus and he was already on his way to delivering gifts to kids! She believed me as we went on our way.
bekahteetDec 06 19 - 00:13I remember praying for a little sister and hoping each Christmas to receive a little bundle of joy. After 13 years, my patience was rewarded with the arrival of my younger sister. I was blessed again two years later when my other sister arrived. This special delivery made for a very remarkable Christmas and a favorite childhood memory.

He kept asking what I wanted for Christmas and I told him just to hold on 1 more christmas and he fulfilled that wish. He passed away January 2008... I will never forget that christmas my daddy gave me his time.... Best gift ever
Kfly1328Dec 05 19 - 18:14Spending time with my family tops the list! One of my most treasured memories is from being little on Christmas. My mom had been sick with Pneumonia so my Dad, sister and I had been by the trees opening presents. All of a sudden my mom appeared at the top of the stairs holding two baskets and my Dad helped her down the stairs. I honestly cannot remember what was in those baskets but I will never forget the feeling of seeing my Mom and her mustering enough strength to come join us. I think that really taught me to value the special people in my life on holidays and always!! 🌲🎅🎄❄️✨

But then someone anonymously dropped off a Christmas tree, a bunch of food, Christmas presents and some money! To this day we still don't know who it was but the whole experience just brought my family closer. It was amazing!

She put the Christmas spirit in all of us every year. Christmas wasn't the same last year and everyone was not under the same roof. It's something that I will forever miss. It's not the same without her. The best memories were the reactions from everyone with her predicable gag gifts and pranks. She made us all laugh until we cried! She was Christmas!! Anticipating Santa's arrival, making sweet treats in the kitchen together, Christmas crafts, pictures, etc...Stuff that she will love and memories to cherish for a lifetime. Just as I will always remember of my childhood. Family being together and making those memories!
gotchabearDec 04 19 - 23:29My fondest holiday memory is of one of our annual Christmas celebrations. We make a big show of opening presents and capturing in on camera so our relatives abroad would be able to see it and not feel as lonely. He said to me once that wether we had alot or a little to spend on Christmas that I always made it nice. But one of our best memories was I had the collection of cvs Rudolph ornaments. And my daughter broke Clarice. I told her not to worry he won't even notice. Well his Mother came over and wouldn't you know it there they are looking for Clarice. So I go in my kids room and we are laughing. I asked my daughter what she did with her and she hid her under her brother's bed. Lol Anyway that night I told my husband the whole story and we had a good laugh. And still till this day we ask were is Clarice. That was a one of many great Christmases.

Looking back now I made hideous items that only a grandparent could love. We would have hot chocolate and cookies and sing Christmas songs. How I treasure those memories today.

Member1122999601152Dec 04 19 - 09:27The best Holiday memory I have is one year my little brother and I baked these huge Nestle chocolate chip cookies and we poured a large glass of milk. Once we did that we got one of my mother's good dinnerware dishes and placed the cookies in it. We waited up for Santa Clause to show we were about 7 and 9 years old and we waited. We didn't see Santa Clause, but the very next morning all of the milk and cookies were gone we looked at each other and laughed as we opened our gifts.

The house we stayed in was decorated beautifully for Christmas, we had all their gifts with us too! Oh and the evenings with a glass of wine and the outdoor hot tub was a plus!

lindydnilDec 04 19 - 06:06The first time baking cut out cookies with a lady who lived across the street from my aunt. My mom wasn't much of a baker so this was a special experience of making the dough, cutting out the shapes, and then decorating the cookies after they were baked.

Member1116437666616Dec 04 19 - 04:47When my sister and I were little girls my parents couldn’T afford to get us a Christmas 🎄. So my uncle went up into the hills and cut us one. We didn’T have much growing up but we had each other and that’S what matters most. Family.

prii1594Dec 03 19 - 16:42My best memory was when I was about 10yo and my family was going through a hard situation, we were living in a city far from our extended family (that we were very close with) my parents made a big effort and sent my brother and I to our hometown. We were expecting no gifts but to be with our family that we hadn't seen in about a year, and we were okay with that.
But our oldest cousins surprised us and showered us with gifts! My brother and I couldn't believe it.
Even though Christmas is not about the gifts, it's still a warm memory to my heart and it inspired me to do the same every time it's possible.

We reminded them about the magic of Christmas and how blessed we are.

MelodyHuntDec 03 19 - 06:39My favorite memory is the Christmas l
Was 13 and started taking an interest in shooting. I asked for a .22 rifle and my parents were far from happy with the idea. They hated guns and couldn't understand why l never asked for girl things. Christmas morning l opened a long rectangular box to find a bright orange cap gun that probably came from the dollar store inside. We all laughed and l thanked my parents for always keeping safety first. My dad then gave me another box and inside this one was my desired .22. A close friend of his had volunteered to teach me gun safety and to shoot and we later rode into the woods for lessons. All these years later l used it to teach my son too.

Clarym11Dec 02 19 - 22:05Perhaps the most memorable Christmas I can think of was when I was a child and we spent it at my grandma's house. We would have dinner for Christmas Eve and sleepover. In the morning we would open presents and have hot chocolate with sweet Mexican bread. Simply it was the best holiday for us.
dimsumkidDec 02 19 - 20:43I loved getting up as early as possible to see what Christmas presents I got Then spent the whole day playing with them.
FoxypamDec 02 19 - 20:27When I was a child, I remember waking up early in the morning of Christmas Day. I walked in the living room and everything looked like magic, there was angels hair on the Christmas tree and my brothers train was going around the tree with little gifts on it's cars. There were 2 doll houses made which kept my parents up all night putting together. It was beautiful!

The homemade gifts I still receive from my older kids are the best gifts ever. If I win ill still share my gift with someone less fortunate spreading good cheer and laughter in hopes for more peace and happiness ❤️🙏This Christmas!
aolanirivasDec 02 19 - 19:04I’Ll never forget the Christmas’ I spent waltzing with my single mother in our tiny living room. There were few presents under the hand-me-down tree, but our mother had my sister and I feel like princesses. We would dance in the small space we had feeling like royalty, oblivious to our poverty because of a committed mother. Those are my favorite. I couldn’T pick just one because it was a recurring tradition that i’Ll always cherish.

ayselnDec 02 19 - 14:17My most favorite holiday memory was the 2016 New Year celebration in London on Waterloo Bridge on a freezing night. I and my best friend had to come early to get a good spot on the London Eye. While the waiting time was so long, all troubles were forgotten when the countdown started. Everyone was shouting including us. And then I saw the most beautiful fireworks that I have ever seen. It was my first New Year celebration outside of my home country and it was amazing.

Mlooney0403Dec 02 19 - 12:11My fondest memory as a child was waking up to a blocked living room of chairs stacked up and trying to climb through to see if Santa arrived. I had a vhs tape of e.T in my stocking and screamed with so much joy. Of all movies, e.T. Its awesome and ran that tape to the ground. Now as a parent to an almost 3 year old boy i’M carrying the tradition of having a movie in your stocking. Sometimes it’S just the littlest things like a movie or vhs tape in my case that is the most meaningful. I hope everyone has a wonderful Christmas and spend it with those you love!
Conniesue62Dec 02 19 - 11:52Decorating the tree brings memories from many years. Very special childhood ornaments take me back to Christmas from long ago. Turned out that Santa had stepped in dog poo & Tracked through the whole house. At the time it was not fun, but looking back, (20 years ago) it’S definitely the most memorable! Lol

Member620100048657Dec 02 19 - 02:01My favorite holiday memory is both sad and extremely blessed! It was the first year that all both my neices and their children were in Texas together except my husband and i. It was also the second Christmas after my sister's death. So spending Christmas without them was so sad. My husband and I hadn't planned and couldn't afford to take the trip. About two weeks before Christmas, I got a large unexpected check in the mail! We were able to plan a drive down. We spent Christmas eve swimming at our hotel pool across from Galveston beach. It was the most beautiful and memorable holiday time with family that i've ever had! #Sothankful
AGDGDec 02 19 - 01:47My best holiday memory was one Christmas Day several years ago. My older sister's children were still young enough to want to hang out with us & They all came to our house to play in the snow. We found a big hill & Went sledding. It was so much fun! My children are fur kids & My beautiful dog Jasmine, (who is no longer with us) rode on the sled with me! I loved that dog so much, (of course I love all of my dogs) but she was a special soul & It was quite a sight for people watching a tiny woman with a big pit bull/Bull mastiff sledding by! We had snowball fights & Drank hot chocolate, (the people, not the fur kids) & It was just a very sweet time in my life. I really miss those days. Of course, we could go sledding again but the giant mastiff that I have now would not fit on a sled! I could probably put skis on him & Saddle up! I look forward to making new holiday memories & It's so nice to read other people's on here. Thanks to everyone for sharing & Happy holidays!

lilyshortduckie13Dec 01 19 - 18:37My favorite holiday memory is when I was playing secret santa with my family. Everyone showed up with their gifts wrapped (well, we wrapped it at the host's place so that we wouldn't know who's gift it is based on wrapping paper). My sisters and I decided to hide everyone's gift and have gag gifts for everyone. When we began, the look on everyone's face was priceless. We told everyone to hush so they won't give away who they picked since many said "Wait, that's not the gift I brought." So we began the opening of the presents. We started from the youngest to the oldest and for the most part, we tried to get similar gifts based on their list or something that they might like. My sisters and I tried to find things we had at home already that we didn't need. One person said they wanted anything cute, never specifying what so we wrapped him a glittery notebook with a cute bear on it. We wrapped a bell with a specific character and as the cousin was opening the gift, he was quite upset and said "Who got me a stupid bell?" When he opened it, he was all smiles because it was his favorite character (i actually had this bell for over 10 years but had no use for it - it was still wrapped so why not give it to someone who would like it). Everyone got a kick out of it and we eventually exchanged the real gift.

ajsattieDec 01 19 - 17:58I remember the first time I used my own money to buy a gift for my mom. My sister and I pooled our money together and asked my brother to pick up a necklace from the bookstore he worked at. So my mom was so surprised on Christmas when she saw a gift from us since she knew she hadn't taken us anywhere to buy something. That was the first year I got that giving is better than getting. It's a fun Christmas memory.

My brother had it was a big box wrapped in pretty wrapping paper and you ripped it open and there's another box inside so he ripped that one open and there was another smaller box inside also wrapped so then he ripped that one open and when he got that one open there was a jar of peanut butter that was wrapped in duct tape so after he got through the duct tape he open the peanut butter jar and inside the peanut butter jar was like 15 different dirty socks from my dad and inside one of those socks was two tickets to the bears versus Vikings football game coming up that January. My brother was so excited he was almost crying.

It is an incredibly pleasant feeling to see their astonished faces and joy in their eyes. It's very nice to see them happy, for me, these are the best memories every year. And most importantly, they don't even know who this benefactor , gives them Christmas presents every year :) I am happy when they are happy.

As a family we give small gifts to each other, but our joy comes from our time together; cooking, playing and singing. It's magical. This year I have a new great-granddaughter.Who just turned a year old. The majic keeps growing and the memories are being made!
lilveganDec 01 19 - 16:36I would say my best holiday memories would be at grandparents old house when I was younger. Our family was much closer then and my grandmother was living. She was the best part of our family, so the holidays are the same since she passed over 10 years ago.

Aburke39Dec 01 19 - 16:06A holiday memory for me was visiting my family back home for Christmas. I drove up there as a surprise visit. My cuzzin who has been in and out of the hospital for 4 years off and on was out the hospital once I arrived. She was extremely happy to see us and her sister started crying. I had no idea why until she said that's the first time she has seen her smile in years since her medical condition. She thank me for sacrificing my time and work to come visit. That visit made my heart melt. We definitely enjoyed ourselves.
Poisoncandy21Dec 01 19 - 16:01One of the greatest memories was the year my youngest son "teacher" (there was a program where every week a teacher would come to explain, teach and give new material for small children like 3/4 to learn colors, numbers, words, etc.) He chose our family to gift "Christmas" to. My whole family was so happy. They went above and beyond to gift every person in my family, took us out to eat and even gave us money. I'm always giving, and wasn't expecting that. It was such a sweet gesture. 🥰
Dd27yahooDec 01 19 - 15:56Living in a shelter just having the faamily togther was special. Grandma, grandpa, mom, dad was asmatic and in the hospital but we were greatful for each other, being together having a family dinner. Father mulligan gave my brother and I each a toy to play with it was a grand day we thought that toy was worth a million dollars, we made mom and grandma each a paper necklace, we prayed together for each other and my dad to get well. Special time being with family.

countrychic84nyDec 01 19 - 15:48We as a family always went and got a christmas tree together. We planted trees most years so in a few years we could cut them down. Dad was disabled but always drove the truck and then mom my siblings and I would go get a tree. Dad was always excited to see it. We haven't gone and got a tree since they passed. It just isn't the same.

CallunaDec 01 19 - 15:24My best memory is Christmas when I was 10 years old. We were pretty poor and the two years prior, we didn't really have many presents, just a couple of things from the dollar store. We still had each other and a roof our heads, and we were grateful for that, but it is definitely a different vibe for Christmas. That year, however, our church donated gifts to our family. We had no idea until we walked out to the living room that morning. We were pretty excited and it felt as if there really was a Santa in the world. Now as an adult, I get to think of that moment when I do things not just for my family and friends but for other people as well. Whether it is donating a grab bag from a grocery store, helping at the food bank or just making a donation reminds me of that year. It gives me a personal connection to that decision that will affect a complete stranger.

Member1122873008345Dec 01 19 - 15:22My favorite Christmas memory ,my son was about 9 my other son was 7. My oldest wanted to know if Santa was really real,so of course we said yes. He wanted to know why the little girl in his class didn't get anything the yr before because he knew she had been good. So after carefully explaining the best I could, my son insisted that all his gifts except for one I needed to take back to the store and get girl gifts, to make sure the little girl had Santa gifts. He wanted to leave them under a tree in her front yard. He wouldn't rest until I promised him we would. The next day we took gifts to that little girls house jenna. I was never so proud. And to this day it is my best memory and my son is 34 a single dad and still just as generous now as he was then.

My brother just moved to Mexico this year & I'm not sure when we'll be able to see him again. We just lost Luna this week so the holidays this year aren't looking as merry.

Merry Christmas everyone.

crupe1879Dec 01 19 - 15:17I was 6 years old when I first read the Polar Express with my parents before Christmas. I remember wanting only one thing that year, and my letter to Santa asked for a bell from his sleigh. A boy from school had recently told me how Christmas presents really get under the tree and I think I wanted to keep that childlike wonder just a year more...I wanted to believe! Bless my parents, hearts. Somehow they managed to find a belt with bells on it, and get it into my stocking without waking my sister and I that night. The note Santa left said that he was giving me extra bells to spread the Christmas cheer! I'll always carry the warmth of that memory with me. Merry Christmas all!
Sundowner2Dec 01 19 - 15:16A favorite holiday memory, was when I was 4. I woke up, saw the tree lit up, and Santa had come. My dad played a little battery operated fishing game with me that had been brought, then sent me back to bed. The next morning, I woke up so excited! So I always try and recreate that magic for my kids!

Member1217102570750Dec 01 19 - 14:54Well... Can I say that it wasnt my best but the best most funniest christmas memory for my kids. See I had procrastinated on wrapping the kids gifts only cause I worked a ton of hours leading up to this. So... Xmas Eve I put them to bed and brought out all the gifts to be wrapped and a bottle of wine. Turned on the xmas music to get me in the spirit and poured my first glass of wine. Well... I got carried away with the bottle of wine and got a bit tipsy and fell asleep on the living room floor. Well needless to say my kids woke the next morning and I was in the middle of all the gift wrapping. Only half was wrapped. So... The kids got to open thier gift in meijer and walmart bags that year. But now that they are grown they remind me every year how they found mom on the floor with an empty bottle of wine and half thier gifts wrapped. They think it was the best/Funniest xmas ever lol.

Hellenv915 Dec 01 19 - 13:40One of the best holiday memories I have was actually not long ago. My smaller son who was 4 months old at that time started having an allergic reaction where he started breaking out in body hives. We realized he was allergic to real Christmas trees. My lovely husband took out the Christmas tree we had and got a fake one and decorated it all while everyone was asleep. When we woke up the next morning on Christmas Day, everything was set up with the new fake Christmas tree and all Christmas gifts under the tree. It was a perfect Christmas morning in which we all enjoyed while Christmas music played

DarkbabylunaDec 01 19 - 12:57My daughter's first Christmas, she was so intrigued by the colorful cookies on the coffee table! I held her up to see and she grabbed onto the table and stood all by herself for the first time! She wiggled enough to just reach a cookie and grabbed it and shoved it in her mouth. She was so surprised by the sweetness of the cookie she just closed her eyes, swayed, and let go falling on her butt. She looked like a swooning lady and everyone laughed and then she laughed and and had the biggest grin ever. It was an adorable and happy time!

lesliedyer_Dec 01 19 - 12:41Favorite Christmas memory ... When I was a kid, we'd gather at my great grandmother's house. The tiny house would be packed with all of my cousins, aunts, uncles, parents, & Grandparents. It was filled with so much love. We would sit around listening to the stories, eat wonderful food, making the best memories.
Later, all the kiddos would pile around the tv and watch the news when they'd show Santa & His reindeer flying on the radar. We would be so excited to get home and get to bed... It was magical. Time was slower back then. Good times.

debmotoDec 01 19 - 12:25My kindergarten year I cried every day, all day at school. My teacher quickly learned that she couldn't have a crybaby in her class all day and for a break would send me to the Dean's office. I was the youngest of 9 kids and that year my parents didn't have much money. I remember being so excited for Christmas that year. When I ran out Christmas morning, I remember seeing a few sleeping bags (that was what each got that year from my grandma) and 1 toy. A big material doll with yellow yarn hair. I was so happy I had gotten a toy. It turned out the toy was from the dean. She had made sure I felt extra loved and I doubt that she knew it was the only toy I would get that year. It is a sweet memory for me to remember her kindness.

SacrinaDec 01 19 - 12:19One Christmas I purchased one of those 2-foot long skinny boxes of candy for my mother and wrapped it and hid it behind our couch like the bb gun in a Christmas Story. After we opened everything Christmas morning, I acted like Ralphie's dad and said what is that over there. My mom enjoyed the candy much more than a bb gun.

CouponingJenny84Dec 01 19 - 12:17Growing up we always spent Christmas with my mom's side of the family. There were so many of us and we always had a blast with each other! I honestly can't choose a favorite memory out of all of those because they were all so special. Late nights with all my cousins and I as kids on the floor with our makeshift beds talking until we fell asleep, delicious food at all mealtimes, laughter spreading like wildfire, watching everyone open their presents (especially the littles and my grandparents) and never wanting it to end. It meant we all had to go back to our own homes in different states and have to wait a year for it to happen all over again. After my grandparents passed a decade ago our family has not gotten back together for the holidays so it's never been the same. That's life and i'm very grateful for the occasional family reunion to bring most of us together again and all the fond memories of the past.

LucyADec 01 19 - 08:22I remember growing up on a farm and hiking through the hills searching for the perfect Christmas tree. We always found the most beautiful full stately tree and we always brought home the saddest scraggly tree because my sisters felt sorry for them. It never mattered because once we added lights and ornaments, every tree was beautiful because of the memories on it.
CookieldyDec 01 19 - 08:02I will always remember the Christmas that my sister had her new boyfriend over for the first time. He was a nice young man but the one thing my Mom and Grandma were a little off putting about was his almost waist length braid. The evening was going great and after dinner we were in the family room and Grandma started singing old fashioned hymns and all of a sudden my sister’S boyfriend joined in and that was it he won over my Mom and Grandma’S heart. The sad ending to this story is he married my sister the next year and 2 years later died in a car crash 3 days before Christmas.

It was an 8-week training with only letters and occasional less than 20 min phone call on Sundays. He wasn’T able to come home after that coz he still needs to go to a-School right away. He missed my birthday and Thanksgiving. He would also miss Christmas coz he’Ll be staying there for another 6 weeks. I wasn’T really looking forward on celebrating anything anymore. But the he surprised me. He came home for Christmas and proposed to me! I was so happy and of course I said ‘Yes’! It was my happiest Christmas ever! Ham and was still chewing on it. Needless to say, Zeus had a very good Christmas even if no one else did!

Each year around Christmas time there would be a booth setup for the kids to go see Santa. The same man played Santa each year. We knew that the mall Santas weren't real, but he was the 'real' santa. He had a real beard, kind eyes, rosy cheeks etc... One year, for whatever reason, I didn't go visit him. So one night after dinner there was a knock at our back door and it was him, the real Santa! He asked me why I hadn't been down to see him yet and we all sat down at our kitchen table and talked about what I wanted for Christmas. To this day nobody in my family claims to have hired him to come by, and I wonder how many other homes he visited to make sure all the kids had a truly magical Christmas.
Member1122946642421Nov 30 19 - 12:32My best Holiday memory/Memories is when I was younger and pretty much all of my family members were still alive and all gathered at my Grandparents. Now, the best Holiday times are when I have all my 3 girls and 2 grandchildren under my roof for the Holidays!! .....................**Wishing everyone very happy Holidays and continue making family memories to last a lifetime!! :) :D
reeseh81Nov 30 19 - 12:19My favorite holiday memory is my neighbor dressing up as Santa and surprising my sisters and my cousins and me. We kind of knew it was him but it was special nonetheless.

clamptonNov 30 19 - 11:33My Best holiday memories are travel with my Mom to Tennessee to see my grandparents. We would load up the car and drive from Orlando Florida to Camden Tn. My brother and I would sit in the back of my Moms station wagon. We ate oranges and crackers on the way. My Dad would drive around the winding mountains of Chattanooga Tn. I rember when we finally got there, my Grandparents would be looking out the window awaiting our arrival. My brother and I raced up the steps to the front door. My Grandma always had a table full of food for us. It smelled so wonderful walking in the door! Homemade biscuits, ham, sweet potatoes. Yummy! Thier house was heated with a wood stove, so it was toasty and cozy! And my Grandparents hugs were always the best. My Grandparents went ever rich, but we always felt loved and we felt we were the richest kids in the world! Merry Christmas!

Member1123094543623Nov 29 19 - 08:11I have so many holiday memories it's hard to pick just one. But in recent years we have a new tradition and the first year we started it is always fun to remember. Everyone knows that Christmas is for the kids, but once my family grew up and had kids of their own I wanted to bring the fun back for the adults. We started doing the Saran Wrap ball game just for the grown ups in the family...It was so much fun to watch the adults acting like children again, excited to unwrap dollar store prizes and candy. It's a tradition that i'm sure will continue for many years to come.
