For years, my Dad always patiently baited my hook and took the fish off, being as excited as I was each time I would catch a fish.
jadabkJun 18 20 - 12:45When I was in elementary school I was a big fan of One Direction, and one day after camp, my dad told me to change my clothes and he said we were going somewhere. It was my first concert, and I had such a great time with my dad that night!

Ms DeeJun 18 20 - 09:49Memory: When I was a child, the utility crew worked nearby, installing overhead lines, which they unwrapped from a giant wooden spool. My innovative, creative Dad requested the empty spool. He then cut an opening in the center part, installed a plexi-glass window and a door, and built a little table, bench seat, and cabinet. He covered the spool with a tarp 'roof', and built steps so I could put my doll babies to bed 'upstairs'. He stabilized my Spoolhouse with cement blocks under the shade of a huge tree in our front yard. I spent many happy hours there as a miniature mommy & Queen of my castle.

Member626560702534Jun 16 20 - 05:48My dad had a habit of waking up at 4:00 a.M. When he was off from work. He was an auto mechanic. One morning he didn't wake up at 4:00. I woke up around 6:00 a.M. And noticed that I didn't hear him in his shop. I woke him up and said, "dad, are you sick or dying?" His response was, "no ma'am, just tired." He laughed and asked if I wanted to help him rebuild a carburetor. I did and we worked together on cars til I went to college. He often told people I was the son he never had. Being his daughter, people couldn't understand his meaning. That's just one of my favorite memories of my dad.

jjcscanlonJun 16 20 - 05:07My father having us wait at the top of the stairs for him to check to see if Santa had arrived. Without fail he'd come to the bottom of the steps and look up at us with a sad face and say "he didn't come" - but we knew he was joking and tear down the steps. I was pretty old before I realized, he made us wait as he checked so he could actually turn on the Christmas Tree Lights for us to make our morning even more special.
Jesquivel62Jun 15 20 - 22:07Growing up playing monopoly with my dad, he would lend me money so I wouldn't lose even if it meant he would lose. dalwuJun 15 20 - 02:38My dad took me and my brother to the beach randomly when we were little, we didn't have swim trunk so we were skinny dipping (we were very young), he ended up losing our clothes in the ocean and we ran butt naked to the clothing store to buy clothes lol

agiffordJun 14 20 - 20:19One of my favorite memories is playing tickle monster with my dad when I was little. He would lay on the floor pretending to sleep and my siblings and I would tiptoe around him anxiously awaiting the moment where he would "wake up" and reach out to grab and tickle us!
Member425874461811Jun 14 20 - 19:50My favorite memory is just when I actually got to see my Dad. He lived in a different state n worked all the time. Time with him went so fast n time was all I wanted .
danlu100Jun 14 20 - 19:22My favorite memory was when my dad retrieved a badminton birdie for me when it fell into a normally inaccessible building basement. He had to ask the building superintendent to unlock an overhead gate and then get down and back up all without a ladder. Thinking back, he probably deployed some nice ninja moves!
melissacleaverJun 14 20 - 19:09My favorite memory of my dad is following him around everywhere outside when I was a little girl wanting to learn everything he did.

PriyakiaanJun 14 20 - 17:40A Dad is a person
Who is loving and kind,
And often he knows
What you have on your mind.
He's someone who listens,
Suggests, and defends.
A dad can be one
Of your very best friends!
He's proud of your triumphs,
But when things go wrong,
In all that you do,
A dad's love plays a part.
Thank you, Dad...
For listening and caring,
For giving and sharing,
But, especially, for just being you!
Happy Father's Day

Member626472106541Jun 14 20 - 17:30My favorite memory was receiving my first puppy from my dad when I was 7 years old. I remember him coming home from work saying he had a surprise for me. That puppy turned out to be one of my best friends.
ivycottageJun 14 20 - 15:22My dad was a great handy man. He was ingenious. In the house I grew up in, if you were in the shower and someone used the water or flushed the toilet, the water would be super hot or cold. He installed a light switch in the bathroom, you put on when you go in the shower and a coloured light is on in the kitchen and the powder room to let people know not to use the water.
Member1122782012305Jun 14 20 - 15:10My entire life with my white-haired Dad (aka Cotton) is full of great memories, from saving all my notes and artwork to him throughout my childhood to taking me to work with him and letting me "proofread" his reports, Dad always supported my interest in writing and artwork. He and mom were both heroes to all 8 of their children and, later, numerous grand-and great-grandchildren.

Back in the 70s or 80s, in his honor, I entered the following poem I wrote for him in the Houston Chronicle Father's Day Card Contest. I won 2nd Place and a DustBuster for my Dad!

To Cotton, Fulfiller of Dreams

I'm taking a big chance by writing this,
'Cause I don't want a good thing to go.
But i'm so darned proud of what i've got,
I have to tell what I know.
See, there really is an Easter Bunny.
He come out now and then to play.
The Tooth Fairy is a personal friend of mine
And when there's trouble, Superman saves the day.
Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus.
He's the best friend I ever had.
I happen to know this as a matter of fact
'Cause all the pals are my dad.
I didn't mean to be selfish by keeping this to myself.
I share him with all of you once in awhile
(With the help of a fairy or an elf.)
But raising 8 kids is quite a chore
And 11 Grandkids can fill his day.
So today i'm sharing our happiness
By celebrating this Father's Day.

You're the best, dad! Love, Mary

Dad passed in 2008. It seems like yesterday I was that little girl, writing him notes and poems. With all these great memories, he never really left after all.

It's my prayer that all children have a father who will love them, care never leave them. Never before in the history of the world have parents just left their family. It's much easier to live with a father who left to heaven than it is to be abandoned by your father.

Jayne KellinJun 14 20 - 03:18My favorite memory with Dad was when I was around 4 yrs old and we were at our uncle's. Then my Dad woke me up at 4 am to catch our bus to go back home. It was so cold in the morning. I didn't want to wake up. Dad put my warm clothes on, caressed me like "Come on, son. It's time. Let's go home. Mom's waiting for us". It snowed and it was so cold outside. It took a long 2 hours to get home. But it was the sweetest time in my life. I'll never forget it, Dad! If I win this sweepstake, I will buy something for you.

Member526131134633Jun 14 20 - 01:11By far, the most beautiful memory with my father and of course my favorite, is when my daughter who had been adopted found us at the age of 16. When my father and I laid eyes on her for the first time and she walked up and he had the opportunity to hug her, he began to cry and wouldn't let her go saying in her ear, " we thought we'd never see you again, ". We spent the evening together and it was the most lovely, heartfelt evening three generations have ever spent. My daughter just made 21 five days ago and the relationship between the three of us is Unbreakable and loving and certainly the manifestation of our dreams.
Member425737861351Jun 14 20 - 00:50My father was very quiet and a man of few words. Gift buying, vacation planning were always left up to my mom. I remember one day a book salesman came to the house and showed my dad various books for sale. He pulled out a copy of Uncle Arthur Bedtime books, which looked amazing to me. Much to my surprise, a few weeks later a box of the complete set of bedtime story books were delivered to my house. The books were the only gift that I can remember my dad actually giving to me. He was an avid reader and the books sealed the fact that I would also become an avid reader. I read every book in the set multiple times.
Monique PenaflorJun 14 20 - 00:34When I realized my dad was my dad. Sounds funny right? My dad is actually my stepdad. I didn't trust any men because of my biological father. My parents were married for 5 years before I realized that this guy is my dad. I fought against him for so many years. Regardless of all of the mean and childish things I did. He still loved me and my little sister. We were brats and he still loved us. He was there when I had my school performances and he was there when I got into trouble. I was almost an adult when I finally realized this. He was there to make me go home to get rest when my son was in the nicu. He was there to help move again and again. He was there to give me away at my wedding. And he is always there for my 3 babies. He is their best friend and their super grandpa. Fathers day is a special day to celebrate my dad.

Danrose18Jun 13 20 - 22:35I was 6 years old at a Chicago Cubs game and the batter hit a screaming foul ball headed right towards our seats. My dad ducked just in time and the line drive nailed me the rib cage. Hurt like heck, but we couldn't stop laughing at how brave he was in not protecting his son. Funniest part was he was wearing a baseball glove at the time.Still can see the stitching imprint from the baseball on my right side ribcage.
miriama59Jun 13 20 - 22:13When he was given six months to live, I was devastated. But he surprised them all and lived another two years. Those years were packed full of reminiscing, getting to know each other better..Sadness and happiness all mixed together. I miss him so much but I was lucky to have that time.
BrusrGrlJun 13 20 - 21:54One week-end my father took me to my aunt's wedding. I was around 16 at the time. We arrived early so my Pops took me across the street to a park to share a bottle of soda with him and kill some time. We sat at a picnic table and he proceeded to take off his shoes and socks. Smiling at him I decided to kick off my heels as well. He got up and started walking nice and slow in the grass, nowhere in particular just randomly and so again I followed his lead. He looked at me and smiled. I asked him what the heck we were doing and he replied. "It's the little things Kimmy, like the feeling of blades of grass between your toes." We looked at each other for a moment with the unspoken words, I Love You and continued to do our thing until the wedding.
I didn't know it at the time but he only had a few more months to live and had decided not to tell anyone. That was one of the best memories of my Pop and also the last time I spent with him. I'm was a good momma because of him and I always appreciate the little things. Remember, it's those little things that make up our amazing lives. Rip Pops, you are missed every single day!
BiolaJun 13 20 - 21:39I don't know if I can pinpoint a favorite memory of my dad but I remember how my dad was always willing to drive me around to places and pick me up. One time he drove me and my friends to a theme park and just hung out around the area until we were ready to leave. The theme park wasn't that close either so that meant a lot to me at the time.

mpspdmjpJun 13 20 - 19:15I've always been told that I was Daddy's little girl. I don't have a lot of memories of my dad, he passed away when I was 12yrs old. I do remember when I was around 6 or 7 for some reason I wanted to make lunch for my daddy, (must be I wanted a toy). Apparently, without hesitation I went into the kitchen and proudly made his lunch. I found out years later when I was old enough to understand that I had made him a butter sandwich (using a whole stick of butter) and a glass of milk. Sitting next to my daddy while he was eating lunch and I was coloring, what i've since been told was that without making a face or showing any sign of "this tastes awful", he ate every bite. That was my daddy, and I miss him everyday!

Member1223755953921Jun 13 20 - 18:53Whenever I was in doubt and would ask my Dad what I should do, he always gave me the same response:
"Do what you think is right."
At first it bothered me that he seemed to refuse to help or to guide me, but I soon realized it was the best advice.
I had to think it through - or not. Whatever I decided to do would be my decision, right or wrong. The consequences would be mine so the decision must be mine. I would not be able to blame anyone for a bad decisions because it would always be my decision.
He was so right - but it took me a while to figure it out - for myself as he taught me.
punkzrok9Jun 13 20 - 18:34When I had a birthday sleepover at the age of 6 and he told us all a ghost story. He talked about a criminal being built into the wall of our house and that if we heard noises, that’S what it might be. Then he went upstairs and beat on the wall, and we all fled the room screaming! One girl even wet the couch! 😀 Thanks Dad!
MrsnellJun 13 20 - 18:17My dad was thirty when I was born, so he wasn't a young dad, he was an old one, but he always looked young. Once after a dentist appointment, he took me to old town Sacramento and we had Chinese food in this tiny little restaurant. After the meal, the waiter brought us the check and wished my father and his "wife"a good day. We laughed until we cried. I was twelve 😳🤦

TFaz1Jun 13 20 - 18:12At five years old my dad brought each one of us to work.
He wanted to give us a head start in life. He demanded more
From us than he did his other employees. Somehow, even
Though we were very young, we understood this unspoken requirement.
One day, before I needed my math in school, he brought home
Four boxes of flash cards covering addition, subtraction, multiplication
And division. He handed them to me and said,
"You have eight weeks to master these. At the end there will be a surprise."
He turned around and walked away. That was it. There was no discussion.
This was to be self-study. He would test me every few days or so to see
How I was doing. At the end of the eight week I had my final exam.
I passed with a 100%. The next day at work, while we were standing at
The end of the deli counter he said, "Here is the surprise," It was a stool.
I was just a little kid. I remember being befuddled and said to him,
"I don't get it". Without breaking eye contact with me, He raised
His right arm and pointed to the cash register at the other end of the deli
And said, "i am going to put it behind the register because
Now, I can teach you to take cash." Wow. This was a surprise, a reward and
More responsibility. He knew how to instill confidence is us and build us up.
I can't begin to tell you the impact he made on my life that day and many
Other days. He was my hero and always will be. When he pointed to the
Cash register, he was bigger than any athlete. They never even stood
A candle next to my dad.
Thank you, dad, for having me learn mathematics before I needed if in
School. As a result, I excelled in math and loved numbers.
As a result. It is what I do today, crunching numbers doing mortgages.
Thank you dad.

Prior to his diagnosis, I disliked my dad because he was a farmer and my brothers and I had to work on the farm pretty much year round. I didn't know my father well at first, but when he was diagnosed with a few months to live, I broke down to be with him. I walked and talked with him everyday for about a year before he passed away. I learned so much about him during that time and truly enjoyed being with him. I was so mad at myself for not knowing / Understanding my father and acting like an ungrateful son prior to his diagnosis. I will always remember those daily walks.

MrsAnsley14Jun 13 20 - 16:17My favorite memories with my dad are the many hikes and cross-country ski trips we took together in the years after I was in college but before I got married. I grew up in a very majestic area of the country but took that for granted as a child. It was fun to explore the scenery around me, seeing it with new eyes after living in another state during college, and my dad was a great tour guide and hiking companion.
JaredTamanaJun 13 20 - 16:15My dad is very passionate about motorcycles. Even when I was scared of riding, he would encourage me to get on our 50cc pit bike. Years later I had really gotten the hang of it, and he was there every step of the way.
JanmkJun 13 20 - 16:12Today, the drive-in movie is making a comeback. When I was growing up, it was the norm. All of my cousins would pile into our station wagon, and my dad would take us to a movie. We'd bring our own snacks because it was just too expensive for all of us to visit the concession stand, but every once in a while, my dad would buy popcorn for all of us.
AGDGJun 13 20 - 16:05As a kid, whenever I had friends spend the night, my Dad had this saying that he would recite at his bedtime. My friends thought that it was absolutely hilarious & Over the years, they began to recite it with him, "i don't want to hear you, feel you, see you, nothin'! Dig it"? This is what he would say, after informing everyone that he was going to bed! (He meant it, too. If we were too loud, he would get up & We would be in trouble). As a teenager, i'm not sure how funny I thought it was, although my friends were clearly entertained. Looking back now, it is pretty dang funny! Now that my Mom is the only one left in the house with him, I wonder if he says it to her before he goes to bed? Lol!
javablue12Jun 13 20 - 15:57We lived next door to my parents when my son was born and when he was 6 months old my step dad started watching him one day a week. One day I picked him up and my dad met me at the door with a lunch bag. I looked at him questioningly and he told me to never again send jarred meat baby food - it was too disgusting to even feed the dog!! From then on it was fruits and veggies only at Papa’S house!!

cnh7651Jun 13 20 - 15:27As a child, my dad & I bonded over sports. We started collecting autographs & Travelling around to meet sports legends, going to games, watching the games on tv. I am the oldest of 2 daughters so I think my dad enjoyed the fact that he had someone to who became just as interested as he is in sports. I still am to this day & I love that I can still talk sports & Bond with my dad to this day.

Member720693792710Jun 13 20 - 14:46My favorite memory of my dad was the time when he had ordered food from a fast food restaurant and went inside to pick it up while the entire family stayed in the car. As he came back with the food. He placed the bag order in the car and the fountain drink on top of the car. As he was fixing his wallet. He totally forgot about the drink, closed the car door and drove off. The entire drink splashed and the ice banged against the roof (of which we thought was hail). Lol
The entire family laughed and I will never forget this hilarious moment.!!!😆😆

Member620213793309Jun 13 20 - 13:44My favorite memory with Dad has to be the day I skipped school. I, (like most teenagers) was struggling with depression and bullies at school, that specific day I felt at my breaking point and could not put myself together. Halfway to school I decided to go back and wait till my parents where both at work; little did I know my father had an early day off work. He entered the house and I was terrified I would get in trouble for not being in school. In complete shock, he came to me with concern and asked me what was going on with me, and why I was acting so strange. What I thought was going to be the worst day of my life actually ended up being one of the most memorable day of my life! I got to have my first real adult conversation with my Dad and took me my favorite mall and kept it our little secret 😊
susan121512151962Jun 13 20 - 13:40My favorite memories were going fishing with my Dad. Nobody else wanted to get up so early on a weekend so it was just he and i. We didn't catch a lot of fish but it was nice spending time together talking.
NiokiCiariel_756Jun 13 20 - 13:28My favorite memory of my dad is going fishing in the Atlantic Ocean on his boat. We would get up early and just like a team of two to get the supplies; rods and reels, ice chest, and complete tackle supplies. Before sunrise, the air was misty and cool. From the dock, we would launch and go out about 3-4 miles out and drop our lines. It would be so serene and beautiful. We didn't talk, we just knew the routine so well that we just enjoyed the quiet together. Once we had a catch it was all hands on deck to strategically reel it in. The excitement of the moment, the rush of adrenaline was awesome! It was teamwork at its best. We would take our haul back to the dock and clean up the equipment. Once back in the neighborhood, we would go to the hang out corner and I would yell 'fresh fish' and all who came got a share of the fresh, cleaned fish. It was the sport, time and generosity of my dad feeding the neighborhood that I will always cherish. Dad, I miss you and I love you! Your girl, 'Nessa.
cyberbeatnikJun 13 20 - 13:26How can I pick one moment when I have so many great memories to choose from? I can't so all i'll go with the first one that came to mind. My Dad is very ethical. He's an eye surgeon who was among the first ophthalomologists in the us (he was 1 of 10) to perform radial keratotomy (rk) to correct vision before lasik and laser eye surgery. When rk was approved in the us, lots of doctors did informercials and tv and radio ads to drive business and made a lot of money. My Dad could have made a lot of money, but he would not operate on people he didn't feel in his expert opinion were good candidates. He would refuse and they would go to someone who would operate. I asked him one day that if he told a patient he did not recommend this procedure and informed them of the risks why not do their procedure if they were simply going to go to someone else who would. He said that while they were free to do so, he would never perform surgery on someone who he didn't feel he could really help. That showed the character of my Dad and I can some it up simply in one word: integrity. That is something we see too little of these days but that example inspires me to this day to always try to do the right thing.
meowlynnnJun 13 20 - 13:20*** Trigger warning ***

My favorite (most sentimental/Meaningful) memory with my dad was when I was 10. My mom passed away 2 days before my birthday due to colon cancer. The day she passed my dad and my little sister who was in preschool at the time all had a family hug and it felt like the first time I was ever really living with my dad. He held us and told us that were still a family and that we’D get through this and he loved us very much. I am now 23 and graduating from college next year with a college loan debt of $102k. Even winning this little giveaway would mean so much to my little family. Please take us into consideration! Thank you so much for reading!

Member224710136632Jun 13 20 - 12:39My father beat me and played mind games with me for the first decade of my life. My stepfather on the other hand was great. He never hit me. All he had to say was that he was disappointed and that was good enough. He was a great replacement and never forgotten. All therefore was a pleasant memory.
maribJun 13 20 - 12:37Going on a windjammer sailing weekend with only my Dad - not mom, not my brothers, just the 2 of us. We both loved sailing and we had fun together, sharing our love of sailboats and the sound of the waves lapping at the sides of the boat.
A precious memory for sure!

Member218039771021Jun 13 20 - 12:21During my divorce my step father would take my son so that I could have some time to myself and also so that he could bond with my son. He would take him to McDonald's which my son absolutely loved. Soon after my step-father had a stroke and became paralyzed so he could no longer do the things that he used to do. I will always cherish the time that my son had with him while he was not wheelchair bound.

My dad never spent any time alone with my son and it was very out of character for him to do this. Also, my son has Down Syndrome. He was around 12 at the time. It was a wonderful surprise.

I have lot of memories with my Dad since my childhood but the favorite memory is when I failed in an exam in my school and was so scared to face my dad- that is when he came and hugged me and said its ok to fail . I still remember him saying " Its ok to fail but its not ok to sit and cry or crib- success is when you fail and try again to succeed".. I follow this till date and I have achieved so many things in my life... Love my dad and this is the best memory which has taught me what life is and how to live life to fullest....

taylerharrelsonJun 13 20 - 10:45My favorite memory with my dad was when we were actually going through the recession when I was younger. My dad thankfully didn’T get laid off, but he did get his hours cut. My mom lost her job and had to work the night shift cleaning. Everyday for a few months, my mom would watch up during the day then drop my brother and I off at my dad’S work so we could ride home with him. I didn’T realize how bad times were because I was so young, but my dad made that time very special for us. He would save up all his loose change and let us choose something from his work vending machine everyday for our snack. Then when we got to go home, we would listen to classic rock (the only genre of music he likes) in the truck with the windows down. I remember sitting beside my dad and leaning my head on his side as he drove us home. I would always fall asleep before we got home and my dad would carry me in. He always has been the best dad even through the worst times.

eviewJun 12 20 - 13:24My dad passed away over 25 yrs ago, he was only 65, they think, 2 days after my birthday. My favorite memories of him are playing with my first mini schnauzer. I remember I had to go to a college internship in a different state, not close by. My dog was only about 5 mos old. My parents objected to keeping her at first, however, the very first thing my dad said to me, when I walked in the house, after being gone for 3 mos, "you cant have your dog back". That little gal was sooo spoiled beyond belief. My dad took her everywhere and introduced her as his first grandchild. They used to sit in front of the tv on Sundays while he watched sports. The first person my dad would hug, kiss and speak to, no matter if it had been months since he had seen his kids, was Rose. We were 2nd class citizens compared to Rose. She is buried with my mother, next to my dad
